New Mac stuff

Loads of news in the Macworld Keynote. I'm mostly concerned about the new Macbook Pro. Yippeee!! I can finally plan on laying my 12" to rest. It's worth 1/5 of what I paid for it now. Typical. Anyhow it'll be 3 years old in April, but is still going strong (despite a ropey 4 key- see I can still get it to type a 4). I've been waiting on the intel laptops and now the time has come. I'll be doing my saving and purchasing, but I may chat to my bank manager about it. iLife '06 looks good. Every macworld I chide myself for not doing enough video, so I'm planning on bringing my DV to Venice and will do a DVD of clips and stills, which I may upload as a trailer style clip.

Adobe Labs - Project: Lightroom

Adobe Labs - Project: Lightroom
This looks great. Apparently the original idea was shown sometime in early to mid 2005, around the same time as Apple's Aperture announcement. Aperture's tough requirements are not needed for this program though.. They even intend it to work on 1Ghz powerbooks. Mine is an 867 12" and it works fine. I'm just about to update to Tiger on my iMac as a few programs I use have been updated and I need to put Tiger on to get the new features they supply.

Resolutions Revolutions

Well it's that time of year. Happy New Year to all I suppose! Anyway this year I resolve to
  • Shoot more RAW.
  • I need to DELETE a lot more shots.
  • Learn to drive now that I finally did the Driver Theory Test.
  • Get up earlier to shoot in the magic hour.
  • Try and lose weight AGAIN. I did lose a bit but I need to lose so much more!
  • Get the studio into a working environment rather than a practice environment.
Those'll do for a start! I need to get new hard drives to cope with backup and the sheer quantity of stuff I've shot. Coupled with the need to be more ruthless with my deletions of course. I was planning on trying Apple's Aperture but there's negative talk about it's RAW conversion abilities. iView Multimedia Pro is a very versatile asset manager which is much cheaper and more familiar to me, which might be the better bet. After all even though it is slower, Canon's DPP is a good converter and the combination might the best. If I work it out I could get IVMP for $169 and Capture One LE for $99 and come in much below the €500 they're looking for Aperture. Time will tell!
