Music, Video and Photo.

Loads passing through my brain recently. I've done 3 shoots recently, with Gwen, Lisa and Lorna. I got some good stuff and learned loads. We all had fun too, but I have to say concentrating on light positions, shadows and poses is mentally exhausting! I've been editing away goodo with 4 of Gwen posted on Random Panderings and some of Lisa to go up in the next few days. With Lorna I did a few fashion shots and one glamourous one which Cyn didn't approve of. It was all perfectly innocent I can assure you. Otherwise I'd wouldn't do it (too much to lose I'm afraid!). Anyhow, like I said I learned loads and got more ideas from it. I've 2 seamless backgrounds now but no support system. I was going to get a portable system, but I might be able to use 2 microphone stands and a collapsable pole I found instead. The Lastolte black/white collapsable one I'm using, while useful, is just not big enough. I'm really working to get started on track for the LSWPP. They have a mentor program which means I can send in 20 shots for critique and they will help with ideas and instruction for free. I'm well up for that.
Still on a photo theme Apple are releasing Aperture for photographers. I've been shooting RAW a lot recently (which means I need a new drive!) and Aperture would sit in my workflow perfectly. Giving both access to direct RAW editing and full archiving with keywording is the business in my opinion. Almost a one stop shop. I'd only need Photoshop for noise reduction and curves then. Cool!
The video iPod might send me after a new Pod. I can do video on the Epson p2000 but it's big and although it plays music, it tends to repeat ad infinitum. I.e. when you're trying to sleep in London it plays all night until the battery runs out. Video podcasts and family guy might be on the way next! Don't mention Suicide Girls. Hmm how about Dawn and Drew video Podcasts?
I spent ages trying to match a melody and lyric to a song today (nowhere near the net at the time) and I got it just now.. The Editors-Bullets. Great track. Add to that long list of new stuff I'm listening. BellX1-Flock, Turn, Bloc Party, Magic Numbers and a few others. I recently downloaded Ryan Adams 'I See Monsters'-great track too.
-over and out for now.

Light competition

Well I only managed 3rd in the Colour Print section of the Light competition. Trevor Moody on the other hand got 1st & 2nd in Digital and 1st in Colour Print. Ken Seery managed 2nd in both Colour and Mono Print. Anne Sweeney got first in Slide. Kudos to her because we both wanted Slide and Digital projections separated into their own sections (which was needed and we did vote for). It looks like you can only be win if your surname ends in Y! Ah no...
Here's the winners:
Colour Print: 1st-Trevor Moody,
2nd-Ken Seery,
3rd-Sean McCormack
Digital Projection: 1st-Trevor Moody,
2nd-Trevor Moody,
3rd-Paul Mitchell
Slide: 1st-Anne Sweeney,
2nd-Martyn Whyte,
3rd-Ger Mooney
Mono Print: 1st-Sava,
2nd-Ken Seery,
3rd-Peggy Quinlan

nine inch nails: only. remix download.

I see that Nine Inch Nails have added 'Only' to 'The Hand That Feeds' as a Garageband remix track. They've added Ableton Live versions too so that Windows users get a go too.

And so it..

I've had a hectic time between work, personal and photographic stuff recently. Trying to fit in parenting with all the other stuff can be intensely time consuming and often frustrating. Matthew is nearly one. Yep. On Friday. Yep that was quick. Where does the time go, etc.. We're not going to do anything huge, but I am taking time off for it and we'll do something for it. I'll see if we can do a little family portrait for it.. I shot loads of stuff and found some missing old stuff (a few up on random panderings of course), in fact I've not even had time to download stuff since last week. The card currently is full of shots of Turn, a camera happy Heron, Preston Reed and Emma (who was helping me check if the sheet I added as a tail to my Lastolite BG was showing a seam in shots-it's not!). I've download Capture 1 LE to tryout and may buy. In other camera news, I've sent off my selection of shots for the LIPF to Hand Imaging for print and mounting. Fingers crossed it all works out because the deadline is the 1st of November. I'd love to get it first time, but you can never know exactly what they want. Studiowise I've Gwen coming in for a shoot Wednesday. We're both pretty excited about it. It should be good.
Workwise it's all the usual. The Ghostwood Project went through in the Battle of the Bands, a good result in my opinion. Turn were excellent last Friday too. Their new album rocks and if you don't have it I'd recommend it highly. It's 13.99 in Redlight Records. I've Tribute to Joy Division tomorrow (or should that be later today?). Yes I did sleep for a bit but I will be laying the head down for a while soon, before Matthew wakes me for good and for all. Quiet then till the weekend.
Donal Taheny will be doing the presentation in the Camera Club on Thursday, as well as the results from the first competition (fingers crossed for my entries). Speaking of competition, I got a Noteworthy from Photofriday.com. That's my second one so I'm chuffed. It gives me a little motivation to enter more-although you can't always win, I mean there's upward of 600 entries most weeks. I'm just happy getting more traffic. I wish though that the people who like the photos would add me to favourites in photoblogs.org so I get a higher rating (and wouldn't you like it with your site too :) ?) and more traffic.. Anyhow... bed awaits.

Acoustic Magazine

I've a shot of Pierre Bensusan on page 17 of the current Acoutic Magazine. It's the only shot that features a credit. Which is a good thing, I think.
