Norman Phillips.
Kelvin and I went to a Norman Phillips seminar hosted by the
SWPP in the Shannon Oaks in Portumna yesterday. The seminar was excellent and we both learned a few different things. I was exhausted though, due to Weststar Monday night. I had to process photos for the papers and then send them on. All in all I managed a little over one hours sleep. I nodded once during the morning, but caught myself. Then a few minutes later Kelvin stabbed me in the leg with his pen! I wouldn't mind but I was paying attention at the time! Among the people there was John Smails, the photographer who did my wedding. It was good to catch up with him and as I'm joining the society, I'll probably see him more.
List of stuff to post.
I'll post the following as time allows: an airshow gallery, Maria McKee, Tommy Emmanuel, John Butler Trip, Poulna Brone Dolmon and maybe more Burren stuff. It's all been a little to hectic...
Aerobat

Eddie Goggins flys past upside down in his Unipipe sponsored Extra 200. If you don't believe it's upside check out the sun on the wheel side of the plane and the metal on the tip of the wing!

If you've seen my
Airshow galleries, then it'll come as no surprise that I'll be up in 4 hours to get a good place in Salthill for the Airshow this year. I've added a few bits to my airshow kit since last year: My 170-500 Sigma is now a 50-500 EX, I bought a scanner to hear the show and I'm bringing my powerbook to empty cards as well as 2 walkie talkies to keep me in touch with my camrade David. Walking aorund with the big lens I bumped into one of the lads from cuckoo savante. The guy with him has a balcony apartment on the seafront. Could be an option! Anyway off to bed after my Work/Shower/Shave/Nosebleed.
BlogIn
We Came, We Saw, We Drank. Or at least a few did. I'll have to hassle
Maura for the list of blogs from all the attendess. I've looked at a few of them before and liked quite a few of them. Anyway I was in Jurys twice leaving both times to do some work... Let's see.. Bren, John, Maura, John, Emmet, Diarmuid, Ina and many others including at least one who's name escapes me but I thinks he's captsolo.net (Uldis perhaps-apologies in advance), were there. There might have been 10 or more in total. Anyhow I'll try be freer next time...
Kinvara Sunset
Ken Seery & I did a trip to the Burren today. I'm processing files as we speak but I had to throw in this one for you. Click through to Flickr to see a bigger version. With the Airshow coming up I'll need to tag these quickly. Not to mention the Galway Sessions shots I'll put into one post soon!
Kopparberg

Warning. These Swedish ciders are way too drinkable. The mixed fruit is blackcurrent & rasberry and weighs in at a hefty 7% alcohol by volume. It's tastes like ribena with a rasberry after taste. Oh and no taste of the alcohol. It's like drinking water. The other one is a pear cider, at a more normal 4.5%. It tastes like the old 10p pear ice lollies. Too easy to drink as my hangover all day Tuesday will testify.
D REBEL XT / 350D Firmware-E.
New firmware. My update went without a hitch.
Yo!

Yo! was a DJ/Skate/Graffiti event partly organised by The Commander (above). It was a good splash of colour on a glorious day. I'd really like if the weather was as good next Sunday for the Salthill Airshow. There's a flyer about Yo!!
here for a little while
903 Walls
Bar 903 has just been refurbished and reopened. On your way in, immediately on your left, is a montage of 4 of my photos (I'll add a pic when I take one of it) done by Ray McDonnell of RayDesign. Also the base image of the shot at the back of the room is mine also (Long Walk). I was in for a quick look only, after soundcheck, and hadn't time to form an opinion about the montages yet (Yes I did know it would be a montage). Overall it looks cool but I'll use the cold light of day to decide! Drop in for a look and leave a comment here please!
Update Here's the shot!
Gadget Gear Grind RIP
I've not posted on my Gadget blog in ages so I'm removing it. I've been posting the post here anyway already so it's not really too much of a loss- More space for here where I don't feel quite as limited. I would like a tag system for posts though so you can find related posts like gadget or band posts. I know Moveable Type does it, but I'm not pushed about moving to another blogger.
SimpleViewerAdmin is a PHP enviroment for getting files online and in galleries using
SimpleViewer quickly. While it can't batch files, it's still pretty quick and takes the tedium out of making the directories and thumbs yourself. I did spend half the night up trying to shoehorn my own webspace design into the PHP script pages though (of course I know nothing about PHP- but I do about CSS and HTML-well enough anyway). Test Gallery is the result of my efforts. I'll be adding more to it and maybe using it as my main gallery controller eventually.
Update I tried to go from scratch with a new gallery. I wrote a batch file to process my selects. I then processed them and added to a new gallery via SVA in less than 20mins.
Further Update I've taken the directory down again. The test worked out fine, but I'm going to a html gallery based system, so I can sell prints from galleries in the future. I'll probably be buying iView Media Pro to handle gallery production as well as archiving.

Yorkshire based AC\DC tribute band Hells Bells played in the Quays on Thursday night. Loud and rocking it was, but a little rough at times. The drummer was filling in at short notice because the band's main drummer was at his mothers funeral. He was a bit sketchy in places but did well mostly when not waiting to get cues on stops and starts. Neil on guitar, however, was fantastic playing as Angus. There was a good crowd in for a Thursday which made the gig even more enjoyable. Lee (singer) did great impressions as both Brian Johnson and Bon Scott. Great stuff..
Lifestyle changes.
After a completely failed attempt the first time, months ago, I got around to ordering shopping from Tesco online. So as I sit and eat my 'Honest' crisps and drink my 'Diet' coke I think I will be doing this again. The driver mentioned that the first shop is the hardest but the system remembers all your purchases making it easier the next time. I also ordered more fruit than Cyn usually gets so bonus points for me.
Return of the 20D
I was rudely awoken by the Postman this morning. I'm suffering a splitting headache over lack of sleep because of it! But he had my 20D with him so I'll forgive him. Yes it works perfect now. No lines!!!! Despite a note that the camera was 'tampered' with (Canon Germany repaired the unit originally) they replaced an assembly board and recalibrated the CMOS. I'm delighted!
Still I've gotten used to the 350D and the 20D feels HUGE in my hands now. Now out to play!
Dave Coen Tribute

There was a full house last night in the Roisin Dubh for the tribute to Dave Coen, not to mention a full stage. The night ran smoothly with only a few minor glitches. Considering the sheer number of acts this was pretty good. Mojo, Riff Raff, Rock & Roll Circus, Sean Duffy, Clint Coen, Pete Gilroy- My head is spinning! Loads more besides. Anyway it was a great night for a great man.
(Smog) in the Roisin Dubh

Gugai surpasses himself in yet another excellent gig in the Roisin Dubh. I was well impressed with the songs and performances. Although the music is definitely in lofi territory still and could be a shoegazing paradise, Bill Calahan made the show very watchable with his regular, odd, moves. From his basic, eyes closed, singing position he would move off mic into a classic Status Quo spread legged position. He might squat down all of a sudden, or even stand on on leg, just to keep it interesting! Not that Colleen (Burke of We Ragazzi according to
Billboard) on Bass wasn't eye candy too.
That makes me think.
Bren was looking for more shots of a female member of a recent band. He might even get me to do an all female muso post roundup. Umm, if he makes it worth my while. I mean, Colleen, Tabitha, Reeta-Leena from Husky Rescue, Sarah from JJ72 would be nice together. Or Caoimhe and Paula from the Chalets, or even Benny (ex Life after Modelling)? I'd be hard pushed to get them together for you Brendan. It would be a lot of hard work, so you'd have to make it worth my while and be extra nice.
Nice evening

For a change the sun came out for a while the other evening.
Weststar first Quarterfinal winners

From left to right:
Alex Lukanovic, Joanne McCarthy, Dan Packard, Emma Murphy and Aimee Glynn.
From my mum inlaws garden
Loads of these. I'll add more if anyone cares to ask or comment.

Opps.
Remind me next time I meet someone new to tell them straight off the bat that I'm married, off the market, unavailable in case it leads to embarrassing circumstances where someone you actually quite like decides you are the object of their hate rather than affection. I feel like a twit. But then us men aren't really all that bright when it comes to these things really.
No. I'm not going into any more detail.
With all the Kerbdog hits I'm getting.
The lads just got together to do a few gigs for fun. I've no other news really. Cormac Battle is doing a show on today FM on and off for Tom Dunne. Dara runs a record shop in Kilkenny. Other than that I know Nada..
In the wild.
Well. An interesting thing happened last night. I was talking to Byrno the DJ (I'm also his ex-bassist) while he was burning off a CD on his iBook. Lo and behold he gets a Bluetooth message request. I figure someone is trying a little bluejacking for a laugh. He accepts and then nearly hits yes to install 'Cabir.sis'. I stop him immediately. 'Do you know what that is?' I ask. 'No' he replies. ' It's a Symbian Bluetooth virus that will wipe your phone. Do you still want to install it?'. Needless to say he switched off bluetooth. I checked my phone and saw the same bluetooth name come up. I had to pull out the battery to stop the messages coming through constantly and then set my phone to hidden. I looked around the club but found noone with a Symbian phone. One dude had a Blackberry which kept getting pairing requests. I figure someone outside had extended their range and was deliberately trying to hack bluetooth phones.
Sin City
Forgot to mention I went to Sin City at the Eye Cinema last night. I was one of the lucky ones. I made it in just as Hector was giving out about mobile phones. His whole
speil was funny the first time, but now it's just annoying so I'm glad to have missed it. The film itself is a different matter. Filmed in black and white, with what looks like hand painted colour splashed scarcely throughout, the plot involves a collection of short stories, all ultimately intertwined. The look of lots of the scenes sit in well with the graphic novel background of the film. I've not read them, but probably will now. All of the acting is excellent, with a host of stars performing. Elijah Wood plays a particularly nasty villan, without even a word of dialogue. Marv. played by Mickey Rourke is probably my favourite character, although I'm bitten by the Jessica Alba bug now. Angelina Jolie has younger competition in the actress stakes for me finally! Anyway. If you've not seen this movie, get off your ass and go. It's simply brilliant. Rumors of sequels are ensuing thankfully!
B&W Matthew
And more of my son!

Andy & Anthony
The troublemakers on the bus heading out for San Franciso for the summer. Lucky boys.
Kif Shoot
Just throwing this one in for the K-Man
Waiting on Flickr
Flickr's getting a massage so I'm awaiting it to get shots up. MacJournal is eating posts again. I'll do a few manually instead.
Husky Rescue
With my normal soundcheck cancelled last Saturday due to Ireland Isreal game (2-2 in case you were on a different planet) I went Cuba to shoot a promo for Kif and watch a bit of Husky rescue due on initally between 9:30 and 9:45. Well I ran out the door at 10:05 roughly in the middle of the first chorus of the first song, after banging off a few shots. One coming up now...
Joy Zipper
Joy Zipper were excellent last night in the Roisin Dubh (Tuesday night for those observing my later than midnight post times). Nice songs and good people. Vinny annd Tabitha are very cool to boot as well as being nearly as beautiful as each other-Okay Tabitha wins. Pics coming soon I promise.
Dave Coen Tribute
There's a tribute gig for Dave Coen next Tuesday 14th June in the Roisin Dubh. Featured acts include Nasty Habit & Mojo, as well as Frankie Colohan. All monies for Charity. I'll add more details later. I'm mixing the gig myself for free so I'll see you all there.
Busy but not.
I've had loads to post but not enough (appropriate) time to get it out so apologies. I've a bunch of stuff to post:
Gig for Dave Coen. Andy & Anthony off to San Fran, Mildred skyping me from Florida in a minor technological first for my family (IE non phone based verbal communnication). Photos of Joy Zipper, Husky Rescue, Kif. Maybe a B&W of Matthew who's away. Yep I miss him, Cyn too. Anyway. If I eventually wake up later that is!
